We had a Rock Star birthday party for Hudson and I had so much fun getting all of the little details ready. I started out by searching online months ago to see what ideas I could find and I came across some really really cute things that other people had done. I think my favorite of all of them was this concert ticket invitation. I just used Power Point to design it and then printed it on cardstock.
The Sweets table. We found an awesome guitar cake kit at Michael’s and Jon actually decorated the cake! My mom made awesome coconut cupcakes with homemade caramel icing and my sister made strawberry and red velvet cake pops. The cake kit came with edible stickers to decorate the cake with and Julie and I used the leftover stickers to decorate the star shaped sugar cookies.
Another idea from the same girl that did the concert ticket invitation was to stamp plain colored napkins to fit the theme
I put up a few pictures of Jon and I as kiddos. In the front hall, I put up some wall decals that fit with the rock-star theme. I had a little table with VIP Backstage passes for all of the kids, rock star buttons for the adults and stickers and tattoos for whoever wanted one!
I made a banner with a picture of Hudson from each month starting with the day he was born. (It’s still hanging in the living room and I wish it would be an acceptable permanent decoration because I love it!)
I used my rock star stamps to decorate the kid’s party favor bags…
and the party favors included rock star rubber duckies, side walk chalk, stickers, tattoos, guitars and microphones.
It was a great party and I’m so happy with how everything turned out! The next post will have all the pictures of the kiddos, family, friends and the birthday boy!
Where I got some of my inspiration for the party….
1) I found this scrapbook paper on clearance at Hobby Lobby months ago and bought the entire stack. It helped me come up with the color theme of using lime green, teal and black for the party. It was also great for making lots of the banners and signs.
2) Lots of online searching which brought me to this party planner’s website ….Couture Parties and her Rock Star themed 1st birthday party: http://www.creatingcoutureparties.com/2010/11/rock-star-1st-birthday.html So many of the things I ended up doing stemmed off of her ideas…thank you Stephanie!
3) Cake Making Kit I bought at Michael’s
4) Another cool website with lots of party and shower ideas: Hostess with the Mostess
I had a great time working on Hudson’s party and now I’m off to plan the next get together….Julie’s 2 baby showers in October!!
