Weekend on the Comal River

This weekend, Jon and all of his best guy friends from A&M organized a weekend on the river. Friday night was guys night and then the girls came on Saturday. The condos we had were right on the river, and our group never ended up actually going tubing, but instead sat on the side of the river hanging out, drinking and watching all the tubers go by. That night we had dinner at a Mexican food place in New Braunfels, and the highlight of dinner was Jon and Chris literally falling asleep at the table after they ate. I guess those fools stayed up till like 5 or 6am the night before and after that plus a full day in the sun on Saturday, and they were toast! When we got back to the condos, I was pumped to hang out with everyone since we don't see most of these friends too often. But no, not Jon...he went straight to bed and was out for the count. I on the other hand kept disregarding the fact that I had to get up and drive home in the morning and be at work at 11am. I instead had a great time partying and catching up with everyone until 2:30 AM. All I can say about Sunday is......OUCH! It was a fun quick trip, and I hope we can spend more time with all these great friends this next year and hopefully make this an annual trip. (Next time, I will make sure I have the next day off of work though!!)

Wednesday with the Hubby

So most of you probably know that I work on the weekends and am off on Tuesday and Wednesday. The biggest drawback to this is not having a day off with Jon. Usually we've got something or another going on each month where we have a couple days together...usually it is related to going to someone's wedding, or a holiday or something. We don't have too many days to just hang out and be normal anymore, so Jon took off this past Wednesday so we could just chill. After a quick trip to take Kaiser to the vet and some yummy breakfast tacos, we headed into Austin and were planning on having lunch at the Trudy's near campus. We were disappointed to find out they open at 2pm on weekdays...Bummer. So we went to Hula Hut instead which was great and included a tubular taco! Then, we kept debating on whether or not to got to Barton Springs, so we killed some time and went to Whole Earth Provision, one of our favorite stores. I picked up a token new pair of Reef flip flops...they have the best selection there. Then we said what the heck, we're down here, let's go to Barton Springs. We got changed into our suits, got our spot all set up and Jon had just jumped into the freezing water when we heard thunder and they made everyone get out of the water! We stuck around for about 3o minutes hoping they would let us back in, but it kept thundering. Bummer!! As soon as we left it started pouring cats and dogs...so at least we didn't get soaked. The funny thing is last time we went to Barton Springs last year it poured down rain on us too!
Barton Springs minus the peeps

So after leaving, we decided to head home and go to our neighborhood pool, but of course the sprinkles followed us home...which isn't a bad thing, but darnet, we wanted to swim! Our day together was finished off by having dinner at the Hartnett's house and that was a great time like always with them. Thanks for taking the day off Jon...I miss just getting to hang with you like normal for a full day and it was a nice treat!

Happy Birthday Seth and Taryn

This past Tuesday was Taryn AND Seth's birthday...pretty cool to have the same birthday as your significant other, huh?! We all went to Buffalo Wild Wings to celebrate and had a great time which included Seth buying us all a round of Patron shots! Hmmm....Patron shots on a Tuesday night at Buffalo Wild Wings...oh well, what the heck, it was fun!

Happy Birthday Seth and Taryn!

Happy 1st Birthday Ainsley!

My youngest cousin, Ainsley turned 1 last weekend on August 9th and she is so adorable! I was spoiled by both parents that week, because Mom was here on Thursday and then on Friday, Dad and Susan came in town and came up to Sun City to see my office and I gave them the grand tour. It was a treat to have them come up there, and then they stayed the night Friday night. Ainsley's birthday party was on Saturday and Angela made the cutest pig cupcakes and cake! Ainsley loved the strawberry frosting on her cupcake and we all enjoyed watching her eat it. I feel like it was literally yesterday that I was driving up to the hospital when she was being born. It is amazing how fast a year can go by! A word that she is saying a lot right now is "bay-bee" for baby. She also has this cute this bouncy ball with Disney princesses on it, and she likes to kiss the princesses on the ball! Happy Birthday Cutie Pie....we love you!

Quick Mom visit and So You Think You Can Dance

I need to do some catching up on the blog...So, two weeks ago, Mom was headed to see Julie in Corpus for the weekend and she decided to break up the drive by coming to see Jon and I Thursday night and staying with us and then she drove to Corpus on Friday. She's done this before and it was nice to have a quick evening to cook dinner and hang with her. Thanks for visiting Mom!! I especially appreciated her watching the results for So You Think You Can Dance....a show that I am obsessed with! I was super excited that my favorite dancer, Jeanine won!! I can't wait for season 6 to start in September. If you have never watched this show, I highly recommend it...especially if you have any background in dance, gymnastics or cheerleading. I always wanted to be a good dancer, but was always a little awkard I think. But I absolutely love watching these aspiring dancers on the show. They are sooo talented and I love watching them learn new dances each week. I tend to always like the Hip Hop routines the most though. Anyhoo, they are sooo good and watching them dance makes me smile!

Party Crashing, Fireworks and Bongos

Interesting title for a post, right? Well it goes along with quite an interesting night we had on Saturday. Our friend Ryan who's in a band invited us to a "gig" they were playing at, but Jon couldn't tell me any of the details until Saturday afternoon right before the party. That's when I found out it was some customer appreciation party at someone's house and the band was the entertainment. I told Jon, "No, we can't go...that's awkward...we would be the party crashers and I would feel weird if someone called us out." Well needless to say, we did end up going after Ryan assured us there should be around 200 people there. We thought, well, we might as well check it out and if it's weird, we'll just bail. So, Jon, Dave and I cruised over around 8pm and Ryan was right, it was a huge party! As we were walking up, Jon said I bet Ryan calls me out on the microphone when we walk up. Sure enough, one of the other band members said "Well, we see Jon Lamb made it out tonight...thanks for coming!" It made me giggle. So basically it was a chill and very fun backyard party and it was no big deal that we were there. The Wheeler Brothers Band sounded great! We were hangin around and some kid asked us if we had seen the fireworks in the garage yet...and of course we hadn't been snooping in these peoples' garage, so the kid took us and showed us a huge amount of fireworks that were to be lit later on in the culdesac. (Sweet! I looove fireworks!) They also had this huge cage thing with black cats all over it. See below...

Tables of fireworks right before the craziness began

Yay....fireworks make me happy!

Check out the video to see part of the black cat explosion

After the awesome fireworks show the band went back on to play some more music. Earlier in the evening, Jon had said to Dave and I, "Man, I wonder if I could maybe play the bongos later on with the band?!" So after many brewskies later, Jon Lamb made his debut on the bongos with the Wheeler Brothers! He also took a stab at the tamborine!

Having a blast!

So, it did turn out to be a big party! Check out all the people!

My favorite picture of the night...that man takes his tamborine seriously!

Dave even joined in on the fun for a few beats...

Jon and Ryan

Needless to say, it was one of the most unexpected, random and fun nights we've had in a long time. Christina--we missed you, but are very glad Dave tagged along with us! That night made me realize that I can be too uptight or worried about plans sometimes, and I really just need to go with the flow more...unexpected things can happen!
